Atmospheric Artist, Rick Austin, Premiers Hudson Valley Winter Showcase
Rick Austin, atmospheric artist is making his Hudson Valley debut with a gallery show at SallyeAnder Skincare in Beacon NY. The show will feature several oil paintings including stunning landscapes and seascapes from the East Coast. Known for his old oil glazing technique Rick recreates atmospheric effects mimicking nature. The gallery show will take place on Friday, December 22nd from 6-8 pm at the SallyeAnder Flagship store located at 1 East Main Street in Beacon, NY. Austin’s work will remain on display until the end of January and is available for purchase.
Being that Lavender spike oil is the main ingredient in Austin’s chosen medium, a gallery at his family’s all natural soap and skincare storefront seemed most fitting. Alongside Gary, Rick’s younger brother and SalleyAnder founder, the siblings grew up in the Adirondack Mountains. Both inspired by natures beauty and honing different studio crafts. Rick has also been instrumental in the designs used by SallyeAnder: for example the hand drawn child on their ‘No Bite Me’ packaging.
“I see beauty in nature all across the world. The Hudson Valley is a magnificent setting to help share my work, with those who appreciate the environment as much as I do.”
Rick studied Fine Art and Illustration at the Art Institute of Boston. He lead his own Graphic Design/Illustration business until 2012. As the web and publication designer for Clarkson University, Rick taught a graphic design course for the communications department, managed a multi-media and web design department for InterNET Services Corporation, taught drawing and painting to various groups including the New York State Council on the Arts, and The Art Institute of Charlotte. He has been in various art guilds, galleries and a juried member of Oil Painter of America. Rick currently resides in Folly Beach South Carolina.
