Grand Opening Celebration!
On June 17th in Beacon, New York, over 300 Hudson Valley youth will participate in an event designed in part to raise awareness about natural healing properties of ingredients that can be cultivated right in their backyard. The event, which is hosted by SallyeAnder and will take place at the company’s first-ever retail store at 1 East Main Street in Beacon, New York as part of its opening celebration, will feature a soap-wrapping contest for kids and soap-making demo, along with live music, food, and more.
“We want to build a movement for the next generation that will help them understand the importance of using all-natural, handmade products like our soaps. Not only is it the right thing to do for our environment, but it is the right thing to do for their bodies,” says Sallie Austin, 2nd generation owner of SallyeAnder, wife, and mother of two.
SallyeAnder has been making all-natural, handmade soaps since 1982; the products are currently available in over 2,000 stores nationwide, and 1 East Main Street is the very first retail operation for the company.
“We are so delighted to make our home here in the beautiful Hudson Valley, where people truly embrace opportunities to source products locally and to do their part to protect our Earth,” said Austin.”
The company has an ongoing relationship with Common Ground Farm, located on nine acres leased from the Stony Kill Environmental Center in Wappingers Falls, which cultivates some of the natural ingredients used in the SallyeAnder line of soaps. The farm project, according to the Common Ground website, is a 501c3 operation dedicated to food access, food justice, and educating people of all ages about healthy food and agriculture that is ecologically sound.
“My mother and father, Karen and Gary Austin, first developed a line of handmade soap products after my brother was born. The demand for all-natural, hypoallergenic soaps has grown exponentially as people discover that conditions like eczema and issues with chronic dry skin or under-eye puffiness can be managed with natural ingredients, and as people do what they can to align their purchases with their sense of social responsibility. We are also really excited about our “No Bite Me” soap, which helps prevent Lyme Disease by keeping ticks away – critically important for Hudson Valley residents,” Austin continued.
“Your skin is the largest organ in your body; it deserves organic ingredients and products formulated to protect its health and integrity. And local farms like Common Ground deserve the opportunity to forge partnerships like this, which ultimately help them realize their potential. We are deeply committed to our mission of maintaining an all-natural line and empowering local farmers by collaborating with them. It is a win for everyone involved,” says Austin.
“We look forward to sharing our message with youth and families at our June 17th event, and, of course, announcing the results of our soap-wrapping contest for the kids after the event. Hopefully our mission and philosophy at SallyeAnder will resonate with these youth as they grow and learn more about choosing eco-friendly products,” said Austin. Grand Opening starts at 12PM on Saturday June 17!
