Vetiver

Native to India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka, vetiver is known as the “oil of tranquility”. It is extracted from the roots of vetiver grass. Vetiver is used to treat acne, wounds and oily skin. It is antiseptic, cleansing and antioxidant.

Benefits of Vetiver for Skin:

  • Cleansing and antioxidant. Vetiver plants are usually the best source of antioxidants. It is especially potent as an essential oil since these antioxidants are present in a higher proportion in the oils rather than the fresh vetiver grass. The antioxidants cleanse and protect the skin by removing harmful molecules called free radicals and other toxins that damage skin cells.
  • Natural insect repellent. Vetiver is also an effective insect repellent. In addition to repelling mosquitoes, vetiver essential oil repels and kills ticks. When used in bug repellent preparations, vetiver can reduce the risk of contracting harmful tick-transmitted conditions like Lyme disease as well as your risk of contracting mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and chikungunya.
  • Uplifting scent. Vetiver also provides an uplifting scent and is known to be effective for uplifting the mood while reducing anxiety. Thus, vetiver essential oil may be useful in massage therapy.
